Tokyo Diamonds 3

“Tokyo Diamonds 3”, from up-and-coming rapper Xiro Wolf is the third installment in his Tokyo Diamonds Mixtape series. Although the opening act of the mixtape left a bit to be desired, after hearing “Drop,” the third track, an uptempo party smash and the contrasting, yet also impressive “Burning Up”, a sensual melody with a distinct R&B feature, I was convinced the listening would only get easier. The highlights of the mixtape include tracks: “New Moon”, “Good Lovin'”, and “October 15”, the latter of which is an impressive delivery over the “Say You Will” instrumental from Kanye West’s “808’s and Heartbreaks” album. As a whole I didn’t find the mixtape to be coherent, however when the steam came- it came in numbers. While encompassing topics from daily struggles to the more sensual subject matter Xiro Wolf’s “Tokyo Diamonds 3 covers an array of topics with noticeable control in his lyrics.

Final Word:

Noticeable, and impressive lyrical control. Not completely coherent, and production is  imperfect, sometimes distracting. However, overall a good listen. Would recommend.
