Kush and OJ

“Kush & OJ,” an intensely hyped mixtape from rapper, Wiz Khalifa, is an interesting project to say the least. The most striking concept of the mixtape from first impression is the circularity of the sound at the beginning and end– the problem is that the sound is very much the same throughout. While the lyrical performance is overall impressive throughout the concept doesn’t quite surface at anytime to me (given I didn’t smoke before I listened to the album and am prepared to write another review after I do). Highlights include tracks “Good Dank,” and “Glass House” which features rapper Curren$y. Another popular track seems to be “Up,” which I feel different about each time I listen to, but seem to enjoy the mellowness of overall. While in a euphoric state this mixtape might be mesmerizing, completely sober, as a whole it was boring and somewhat bland. Regardless of my personal appeal it seems to be a fan favorite.

Final Word:

Euphoric- yes; Groundbreaking- not as much. Not much variety to the sound, however production is above average. Lyrically ranging from idiotic to clever.
